GEORGIA – CRADLE OF WINE MAKING History:
There are the most ancient evidences of wine selections in Georgia , which formed the basis of appearance of great variety of wines: Vitis Vinifera sativa. Carbohydrate analysis proves the creation of cultural wines, approximately in 5000 B.C.
Transcausian region, homeland of modern Georgian wines is one of the lands of Vitis Vinifera sativa, where, as it is considered, 7000 years ago grape was gathered for the first time in the world for making wine. According to the legend, Nino, enlightener of Georgia (4 th century) came to the land of Iberia holding a cross in her hands, which was made of vine stems bound by her hair, as a symbol of a new faith. Devotion and love to vine is unique. It is constantly presented on the national attributes and is connected with many legends and myths. It is sung in music, literature, poetry, architecture and applied art. Probably this boundless love to the vine created on the Georgian land more than 500 varieties of this blessed culture. More than 500 varieties ….. Because every micro-region of Georgia possessing its unrepeated soil and climatic conditions, give birth to its sort of grape, its own technology, its winemaking phenomenon. And what is most surprising, splendid wines in current Georgia are constantly growing in number.
